What is ANANTA?
A free anime open world that behaves like a city, not a map
ANANTA is an urban open-world RPG: a free-to-play game set in cities you cross on foot, by bike, by car, by climbing and by rope swing rather than teleport across. It is developed by Naked Rain Studio and published by NetEase Games, and it releases January 15, 2027 on PlayStation 5, PC, iOS and Android.
Combat runs on a squad of four characters you switch between mid-fight, so the same encounter plays differently depending on who is on field. Outside combat the movement is the point — running, climbing and a grapple line all cost no stamina, and the game expects you to use them instead of a fast-travel menu.
Two cities are announced. Nova City reads as a near-future Tokyo; Lingyun borrows from Shanghai and Hangzhou, including the Longqi Village temple district, and the PlayStation Store blurb calls the Captain's home turf Chongxiao. The official site currently lists six characters, and pre-registration is open on every platform NetEase has announced.

The Captain is yours
You play an elite agent of the Anti-Chaos Directorate. You choose name and gender at the start and can customise outfit and car; the story role itself is fixed.
The squad shares a buff
Beyond switching between four characters in a fight, the whole team can carry one extra team-wide buff, such as crowd control or telekinesis.
The city is the content
The game carries over 100 interactive NPCs, and the relationships you build with them unlock new combat skills and badges.

What people actually ask
Is ANANTA free to play?
Yes. Steam files the game under Free To Play and the official site sells nothing up front, so the base game costs nothing. The monetised items announced so far are for customisation — outfits, vehicles and homes.
Is ANANTA a gacha game?
Not for characters, and that is the developer's own answer rather than ours. Naked Rain and NetEase have said every playable character is obtained by playing, which IGN covered at gamescom 2026. Two store labels we keep visible point the other way for paid items: the Google Play listing reads In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items), and the App Store listing carries a Loot Boxes advisory. So characters are not drawn, but randomised paid items clearly exist somewhere.
Does ANANTA have multiplayer or co-op?
Not announced. NetEase has never published the multiplayer scope, and the Steam store page lists Single-player as the only gameplay category. The PlayStation Store page does say online play is required for one online player, which confirms a connection requirement but not co-op.
Is ANANTA coming to Xbox?
No version has ever been announced. Xbox appears in no official platform list — the official site, Steam, the PlayStation Store and both mobile stores cover PS5, PC, iOS and Android only. This is a never-announced answer, not a delayed one.
Is ANANTA the same game as Project Mugen?
Yes. Project Mugen was the working title announced at gamescom on August 24, 2023, and the game was renamed ANANTA on November 29, 2024. Guides written under the old name describe this same game, so their platform lists and release-date guesses may already be out of date.
What are ANANTA's system requirements?
Not published. The Steam store page still leaves its minimum and recommended fields unfilled, and NetEase has released no specification. Community benchmark tables exist but are unofficial, so this site does not list one.
